WHAT IS SOUTH ASIAN DANCE?

South Asian dance encompasses dance forms originating from the Indian subcontinent and developing in the diaspora.

  • Browsing the listings
    • Click on the type of event you are looking for (a performance, training class, job or other event) on the menu section at the left of the screen. This will take you to a new screen, displaying the most up to date events currently on the site.

      If you’d like to search for events happening in your region, click on your area in the UK map. You will be taken to a regional page which shows all the different types of South Asian Dance events (performances, training, jobs and other events) happening in your area.

      You can also use the Quick Search on the right hand side of the screen, under the UK map, to find even more events. Enter a keyword or use the dropdown boxes to narrow your search and then click on the ‘Search’ button to see the results.
  • Searching the database
    • If you are looking for specific events(for example if you are looking for a performance taking place in London on a certain date) visit the advanced search page by clicking on Advanced Search in the left hand side of the menu bar at the top of the screen. This page helps you narrow your search by letting you choose particular words or dates to search for.
  • News
    • The News pages are where you can find out what is happening in the South Asian dance world. There is news about developments in the industry and the various dance organisations in the UK, news about upcoming events and also news concerning the direction of this website.

      You can search the news archives for particular articles by entering a keyword or dates in the Search the News Archive on the left hand side of the News Archive page. (To reach the News archive page, click on News in the menu at the top of the page, then click on Archived News on the left hand side of the News page)

      You can also tell us about your news and we will add it to the news page. Simply click Submit News (at the bottom of the left hand column on the News page), fill in the contact form and click Send message.
  • Newsletters
    • Newsletters are how we can keep you informed with what is happening in the South Asian dance world. We send out a monthly newsletter which contains all the latest news. To subscribe to (or unsubsribe from) the newsletter, join the site (see ‘Becoming a Member’ below) and login using your username and password.

      You can then either click on ‘Subscribe’ or ‘Unsubscribe’ on your members area Homepage (to get to your homepage, click on My Homepage on the left of the members menu at the top of the screen) or you can go to ‘My Details’ page select either ‘Subscribe’ or ‘Unsubscribe’ in the form and press the ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Benefits of joining
    • Southasiandance.org.uk is the leading online community promoting South Asian Dance in the UK. By joining this community you have access to people across the UK with an interest in South Asian dance. You can post news about your performances, training events, workshops and conferences to this site and know that this will reach a targeted audience. We manage the information for you, ensuring that it is taken off the site, once it it out of date. This website is also linked into a variety of other arts-related sites, attracting an even wider user base.
  • Becoming a member
    • To become a full member of the site, click on the ’Free Membership‘ link on the top menu bar, and fill out the required information - a username and password will be emailed out to you immediately, and you can use that information to begin accessing the advanced features of our site.

Members Help


For help on the SADA members area click below to view a specific topic, or open or close  all topics.

  • How to add a listing
    • To add a listing to the site, you will need to become a full member of southasiandance.org.uk - and you will need your user name and password to access the members’ area of the site. (see ‘Becoming a member’ section above)

      Once you have your user name and password, login using any of the login boxes on the site. Alternatively, go to ‘Free Membership’ page in the top menu bar and use the login boxes on the right hand side of the page. If you have entered a correct username and password, you will be taken directly to your home page. This will show you any listings you have entered and if you are currently subscribed to the newsletter.

      To create a new listing, click on ‘Add Listing’ on the purple ‘Members menu’ at the top of the page. This will take you to a simple form where you can fill in the details of your event and the venue. (Find more detailed information about filling in this form in Entering event details.) Click on ‘Save’, and your information will be instantly displayed in the relevant listings section of the website. (NB: If you don’t enter any dates into your listing, it will be saved and you can edit it as normal, but it will not be displayed in the general listings area until you do enter dates.) We will make sure that your listing appears to members of the browsing public in the correct manner.
  • Entering event details
  • Managing your listings
    • The system will take care of most of the management of your listings. You needn’t worry about removing information once it is out of date, for example, we do that for you. Also there are no plans to introduce a limit on the number of postings individual members can make.

      From time to time you may need to remove a listing (if a performance is cancelled, for example) or edit its content. You can easily do this.

      To edit an existing listing, log on, using your user name and password. Your listings will appear on your homepage and you can click on the title of the listing you wish to edit. You will be taken to the editing screen. Simply change any information that you need to and click on ‘Save’ when you are finished. Your changes will be immediately available online.

      To delete a listing altogether, click on the –Delete’ button at the end of the editing screen. Remember that changes made in the members‘ area are instantly updated online. Once you have deleted a listing, the information is deleted completely from the site. Make sure you don’t mind losing any information within the post before you press delete.
  • Changing your contact details
    • When you register with southasiandance.org.uk the website will hold contact information that you submit about you and your company. We may use this to let you know about new developments or other information about the running of this site. If you need to change this contact information you can easily do so by clicking on ‘My details’ in the Members menu bar at the top of the page. Make any required changes, and then click on ‘Save’ - our files will be instantly updated.
