CHIRANJIB CHAKRABORTY, one of the top ranking vocalist of Indian classical music in Europe, disciple of late Pandit Nidan Bandhu Banerjee, Pandit Arun Bhaduri and Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. He is also learning Karnatic vocal music from the Maestro Padmabhushan Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna. As an young promising vocalist of Indian Classical music, he is able to demonstrate a high degree of creativity and versatility in bringing to life a wide range of tunes – from pulsating ancient Dhrupad music to sublime songs of light classical music and from today’s fusion to Classical Ragas. His music sparkles with the very rare combination of virtuosity with classical purity and a deep sense of aesthetics. Chiranjib’s style of blending Rampur, Gwalior and Patiala Kasur Gharanas has particularly been appreciated by the music circles of India and abroad. His tonal quality and ability to exercise control over sur and taal has drawn special attention to music lovers. As a vocalist, he has performed in many major music festivals throughout India and abroad. He is currently living in London and established “Sangeet Kala Academy”, an Institute of art and culture for the younger generation. He also presently works for Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan as a Lecturer for the B. Mus. Degree course under the auspices of Trinity College of London. He has recently been honoured as “Fellow” (FTCL) by Trinity College of London in Indian Vocal Music.
