KALAKUNJ, the dynamic performing arts group based in Reading celebrates its fifth annual dance and music festival "Samarpanam: an offering" to the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India with exemplary performances highlighting the classical tradition. "Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnu Gurur Devo Maheshwara Gurur Sakshat Param Brahma Tasmai Shree Guru Veh Namah" (We bow down to the trinity of Hindu Gods: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and the "Guru" or the teacher who is the embodiment of ultimate knowledge). The evening of Indian classical dance and music will feature breath-taking colourful presentations in the Bharatanatyam idiom by Ananya Chatterjee, the founder of Kalakunj along with her group of talented students and Tuhina Bhattacharyya, an internationally acclaimed danseuse specialising in the intricate nuances of Odissi dance, a classical genre originating in the Eastern part of India.
